Momofuku Noodle Bar and Milk Bar in Toronto

We love Momofuku. This isn’t earth-shattering news as there are thousands of David Chang fans around the world given the 3 James Beard Awards he’s won and his restaurants in New York, Sydney and Toronto.

Momofuku Noodle Bar in Toronto is one of our favourite ramen restaurants in the city.

Needless to say, the Milk Bar which is one floor above the Noodle Bar is also a family favourite with its sweet treats and this thing called Crack Pie. More about that later.

Located on the first floor of the Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto, Momofuku Noodle Bar is an open and bright restaurant.

Long communal tables, stools and benches with a view into the kitchen is what you can expect once you step through the heavy doors.

We usually visit around opening (11:30AM) as the Noodle Bar is primarily a walk-in restaurant. We’ve tried several times to go for date night and even at 8 or 9PM this place is packed. Torontonians like to party!

The pork buns are to die for. They don’t sound like anything special just looking at the menu but they are delicious. And memorable. Very memorable.

Steamed buns + fatty pork slices + cucumbers and hoisin sauce = PERFECTION.

I could eat 20 of them and just call it a day. OK, maybe not 20 because that’s gross but you know what I mean.

On the left is the Smoked Chicken Ramen and the right is their Momofuku Ramen.

If you don’t mind a strong mushroom flavoured broth, the Smoked Chicken Ramen might be for you. It isn’t my go to if given the choice between the two bowls, but my husband loves it. The fried chicken skin is very tasty.

With it’s pork slices, fish cake, al dente noodles and hearty broth, the Momofuku Ramen gets my stamp of approval and a few thumbs up from our kids (5 and 2). It’s difficult not to like a classic.

On to dessert or in our case a late night snack from the Milk Bar.  Walk up a flight of stairs from the Noodle Bar and you’ll see the following sign.

How does one even choose?

What you’ve read and heard is true. Crack Pie is everything everyone says it is. Like a highly addictive butter tart with a toffee crust.

Hard to explain in words, just get it! Our family of four finished 2 slices in under 5 minutes. Sad, but true.

Side Note: you can even get entire pies shipped anywhere in Canada but it’ll cost you $45-60 just for shipping!

Blueberry & Cream Cookies are also very good. Sweet, addictive (for a 5 and 2 year old) and fairly priced for a cookie.

Momofuku Noodle Bar is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a quick lunch, dinner or snack. It is on the pricey side as our lunch plus snacks was close to $60 but delicious none the less.

High chairs aren’t available so if you have little ones in your dining party you can sit them on your lap or keep them in the stroller as it’s quite spacious on the first floor. Just make sure to go early if you want to get a seat!

  • I've never seen Ramen done that way! I'm going to have to find a Ramen restaurant around here that serves it to try it. And those desserts look amazing from that Milk bar :)

  • Oh how I wish they had a location in Boston. The food looks amazing and it's definitley a place I would like my kids to try :)

  • This looks like a fun place - and their menu is SO interesting! I so want one of their cookies. And a pie, minus the over the top shipping prices. ;)

  • I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea of a MILK bar. But they serve sweets with milk? Sounds like the ideal place to get cookies!

  • When I think of Ramen noodles, I picture the cheap packs at the grocery store - definitely not the case here. And wow, that milk bar would really cause my weight loss to do a 180 degree turn!

  • Well this brought Ramen noodles into a whole new light for me! Like others, when I think of Ramen I think of those little microwavable packs you find at the supermarket. Now this looks gourmet and delicious. I never thought it could be cooked and prepared in a different manner.
