Good Eats: Butterbeer at Universal Studios Orlando

This week’s Good Eats post is not a food dish but rather a drink.

Butterbeer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando needs no introduction – especially for Harry Potter fans.

I’ve been wanting to try the HP version for a while now (yes, I was one of those people who waited in line at the bookstore at midnight each time a new book was released) and headed straight for Diagon Alley to grab a cup.

The Fountain of Fair Fortune in Diagon Alley is one of several places where you can find this popular wizarding beverage.

They serve non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks here along with a souvenir cup that cannot be found anywhere else in the park.

Butterbeer does not contain alcohol and comes in two versions at Universal Studios – regular Butterbeer  (cold fizzy drink that tastes like cream soda topped with butterscotch flavored whip cream) or Frozen Butterbeer for $6.99.

Canadians, it’s like Tim Horton’s Iced Cappucino but butterscotch flavour.

Regular Butterbeer in the souvenir cup will set you back $12.

Mr. Kids On A Plane and I preferred the regular Butterbeer – sweet, bubbly and refreshing on a hot and sunny day.

The frozen version was too sweet for us adults but our daughter and son loved it.

The souvenir mug can be used for discounted refills throughout the park – $0.99 for soda and lemonade but if you’re looking for a Butterbeer refill expect to pay regular price as it is not discounted.

Due to the limited menu, lines are short here at the Fountain of Fortune.

If you’re looking for Butterbeer in Diagon Alley and need it ASAP, this is the place to go. And make sure to check out Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour afterwards if you have space for dessert. They have Butterbeer ice cream there!

  • Butterbeer sounds really yummy! Will have to try and remember to try it out next time we go to Universal Studios!

  • I'm DYING to go to Universal and can't wait to try everything, especially the Butterbeer! I'm not generally a fan of Cream Soda, but hopefully the butterscotch (and the novelty) will make this a memorable treat! :)

    • I'm not a big fan of cream soda either, Stephanie - although I was when I was younger - but Butterbeer was pretty tasty. It also might be that giddy feeling I got walking around the WWOHP that made it memorable too.

I loved the books (as did my husband) so I probably would have given the thumbs up to anything associated with Harry Potter. I couldn't help myself, I bought a wand too. LOL! And it's now collecting dust in my closet :S
